About Us

Shanga-shanga crafts is a Kenyan registered enterprise situated at Malindi and Watamu towns of the Kenyan Coast. Its main objective is to bring out the best in local talent in creation and making of Kenyan crafts using locally available raw materials. Subsequently creating earnings for the artists and weavers for their day to day upkeep and care of their families.

In terms of education, food and healthcare. ShangaShanga promotes the local talents by encouraging, especially the youth to make, mostly raffia baskets, ”kiondo” kikoy oriented bags, gowns and garments, decorative beadwork and small gift items.

ShangaShanga purchases locally available raw materials from small suppliers, mainly from women groups who harvest them from their small farms and hence their earnings.

ShangaShanga does not necessarily employ staff to work from its premises but rather encourages the artists to work from their respective homes which saves a lot of time and money in terms of transport and food.

In other words, they work where they live, eat with their families,  watch over their small children and also produce more since they work long hours as they wish at  the comfort of their homes.
